Big List Of Resume Writers.com

Big List of Resume Writers
and resume writing services

Considering a resume writing service? Reconsidering after finding yourself hip-deep in dubious guarantees and the endless glowing testimony of anonymous clients? Yes, it's frustrating. Independent reviewers should help. But too often, they sound more like paid shills for the companies they review.

We have a different approach. We've identified the most popular resume services on the web, lined them up in a row and ranked them according to an objective benchmark -- BBB scores (that's the Better Business Bureau, the nationally-recognized consumer watchdog). To that, we've added commentary and analysis by a former professional resume writer. A note of caution: between the BBB reports and our guy's testy attitude when confronted with BS, some of this can get ugly. But ugly just might save you from spending hundreds of dollars on a resume service that's peddling incompetence. Or worse. Read more on how we compiled and ranked our list.

How We Compiled Our List of Resume Writers

Compiling the Big List of Resume Writers

Right off the bat we faced a daunting task. There are hundreds upon hundreds of resume writing services out there. Some are sole proprietors, working out of their homes and keeping busy by word-of-mouth. Others are small to medium size firms employing a staff of writers and support personnel. Others still are large networks tapping literally hundreds of independent contractors to do the writing.

Small or large, resume writing services break down by another metric; whether they are focused strictly on a local marketplace, or whether they solicit a nationwide or even an international clientele. It seemed impractical to try to include every swinging shingle; many mom & pop shops, for example, may not proffer the types of services (i.e. online delivery) that would benefit a prospective client a thousand miles away.

If you're reading this page, you're obviously online. From that beginning, we took the leap-of-faith guess that you--our audience--are looking for a resume writer who does business online. We extrapolated further that you would like to consider writers who have some history behind them, a resume or two under their belt, a track record that could be held up to the light and looked at. That leaves out the newbies and the fly-by-nighters.

Size, Longevity, Services and More

We first gathered up the most popular online resume writing services we could find. And by popular we mean those firms doing the most traffic in resumes. By the way, traffic alone is no indication of quality, as we discovered time and again.

We made sure their breadth of services was adequate for the typical job seeker (i.e., that they handled cover letters, related documentation, and multiple resume formats such as e-resumes and PDF resumes).

We made sure those popular sites had some longevity about them, that they have been in business at least long enough to have a track record that was public. And speaking of track record...

We made sure they were subject to an objective benchmark. Early on, we settled on Better Business Bureau scores as the objective benchmark most accepted and most widely trusted. As a bonus, it turns out that particular metric lends itself quite easily to ranking.

What's A List Without Expert Opinion?

Once the list was compiled and the ranking complete, we tapped former professional resume writer David Alan Carter to take a look at each company. We asked him to filter their promotional materials, their sample resumes, their pricing and their guarantees through the lens of an insider. The results can be found both in the "thumbnail reviews" on this page, and the "in-depth reviews" located by following the associated links.

We sincerely hope you find what you're looking for in a resume writer, and that the collaboration produces a document that lands a job you deserve and feel rewarded by.

Best of luck,
Editor, Big List Of Resume Writers

* This gets confusing. Monster's Better Business Bureau rating is currently D- on a scale of A+ to F. However, for years they had been contracting out their resume writing service to co-branding partner Career Services, Inc. which holds a BBB rating of A+. Then, as of January 2015, Career Services, Inc. was bought by Talent, Inc. which holds a BBB rating of F. We have it on good authority that Talent, Inc. is writing the resumes for Monster, at least as of February 2016.
