About Resumes Guaranteed...
Pricing Points, Fast Facts, BBB, Complaints

Land a job within 60 days, or Resumes Guaranteed will refund the entire purchase price of your new resume -- plus an extra $100 to boot. If you're thinking, "how can I lose," think again. A guarantee is only as good as the company that stands behind it. And this particular company stands behind a shopping list of conditions that make it practically impossible to collect on such a guarantee.

What I Liked (the Pros)

Not much. I suppose the website is pretty.

What I Didn't Like (the Cons)

Writers' qualifications are unknown. They claim your project is routed to a group of "highly experience resume writers." Evidently, this group is comprised of "individuals boasting impeccable records of success." But those "impeccable" records are being kept close to the vest; nothing is posted. Nor is there any mention of certification for the writers.
Pricing is evasive. At first glance, it appears that $109.95 buys a resume for a professional, period. On closer inspection, the company notes: "Nominal surcharges of just $29-$39 are applied to resumes featuring high levels of experience. See our order form for details." Problem is, when you go to the order form, no details are forthcoming until you've plugged in your email address and initiated the ordering process.
Sample resumes posted on their site are amateurish; overused keywords, graphics that might appeal to resume first-timers, etc.

And finally, the guarantee. Do you believe in fairy tales? This is a pretty one. If you don't land a job within 60 days of receiving your new resume, they will refund your money, pay you $100 extra, and still re-write your resume. Two problems: 1) there's fine print, and 2) try finding the fine print.

Actually, I found the fine print after clicking on a small link at the bottom of the page, under Terms of Service. Turns out, if you want the refund, you must show proof of having sent out the resume to a minimum of 40 prospective employers. Proof? Well, that would be fax receipts or certified mail receipts. Who sends out resumes by certified mail? And if you did, at $4.95 per letter at the time of this writing, 40 certified mailings would run you $198.00 -- more than the cost of the resume you're trying to get refunded.

But there's more. At their discretion, they may ask for proof of continued unemployment -- like a copy of a recent unemployment check. And if you've been employed all along and were looking to use the resume to secure a job elsewhere, well, no refund for you.

I'm not saying this company hasn't issued refunds over the years. I believe they have. I'm just saying, you'd better have all your ducks in a row. And even then, if internet and BBB complaints are any indication, I would expect a battle.

Review Summary and Recommendation

Amateurish writing, evasive pricing, and a gimmicky guarantee that doesn't pass the smell test are three reasons I can't recommend this company.

If you want to improve the odds of landing a job sooner rather than later, my advice is to save yourself the money they're charging and apply that to a service with a higher BBB score, certified writers doing the work, and few or no complaints dogging them. Go to our home page to see our list of the most popular online professional resume writers who make the grade (hint: look for Better Business Bureau scores of A+ or A).

All of this is my opinion; do your own due diligence. The following link is provided in case you want to verify for yourself, but I recommend avoiding...

Complaints:

The number of complaints filed with the BBB "for a business of this size" was above average (15 complaints over the past 3 years), contributing to a lowering of the company's rating.

It should be noted that the great bulk of complaints on the BBB site have to do with "Guarantee/Warranty Issues" and "Problems with Product/Service."

One final note: the BBB takes issue with the company with regards to it's money-back guaranty, specifically the conditions applied to qualify for that refund. The BBB has made suggestions to the company for altering it's guarantee to bring it into compliance with BBB's Code of Advertising.

The company has declined to alter it's terms accordingly.

There appear to be a number of complaints posted on Internet forums, most notably from the sites RipOffReport.com and ComplaintsBoard.com.

Typically, complaints note poor writing quality, poor customer service, and/or the company's unwillingness to make good on a guarantee.
